Ahmedabad, October 14, 2023
India emerged victorious against Pakistan by a comfortable margin of 7 wickets in the thrilling 12th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing a modest target of 192 set by Pakistan, the Indian team displayed a clinical batting performance. India's openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan laid the foundation with a solid opening partnership of 84 runs. Virat Kohli continued the momentum with a crucial 60 off 55 deliveries, while Shreyas Iyer contributed an unbeaten 53 to guide the Men in Blue to victory with 117 balls remaining.
Earlier, Pakistan's batting faltered, losing wickets at regular intervals. Only Babar Azam (68 off 88) and Fakhar Zaman (50 off 67) managed to cross the 50-run mark. India's bowlers, spearheaded by Mohammed Shami (2/29) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/43), kept a tight leash on the Pakistani batsmen, restricting them to a below-par total.
This victory marks a significant milestone for India in the World Cup, solidifying their position as one of the contenders for the title. Pakistan, on the other hand, will need to regroup and re-strategize ahead of their upcoming matches.
