Boston Takes Early Lead in Series
The Boston Celtics took a commanding lead in the NBA Finals on Thursday night, blowing out the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1. The Celtics were led by Jaylen Brown's 29 points, while Jayson Tatum added 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Kristaps Porzingis, who was making his return from a calf injury, led the Mavericks with 20 points, including 18 in the second half. Luka Doncic added 19 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Celtics' hot shooting.
The Celtics shot 51.7% from the field, including 45.5% from three-point range. The Mavericks shot just 39.8% from the field and 30.8% from three-point range.
The Celtics also outrebounded the Mavericks 48-34, including 19-9 on the offensive glass. The second chance points gave the Celtics a significant advantage in the game.
The Celtics took a 10-point lead into halftime, and they extended their lead to 20 points in the third quarter. The Mavericks never got closer than 12 points in the fourth quarter.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals will be played on Sunday night in Boston.
