Purpose
The elections were to elect a Constituent Assembly to draft a constitution.
Referendum
A constitutional referendum was also held in France on 21 October 1945. Voters were asked whether they approved of the draft constitution.
Cantonal Elections
In the September 1945 cantonal elections, the main opposition party was only able to win 234 seats out of a total of 3000.
