Angels vs. Astros Highlights | MLB on FOX
Gerrit Cole Pitches Astros to Game 2 Victory Over Angels
In a highly-anticipated matchup between two AL West rivals, the Houston Astros defeated the Los Angeles Angels 5-2 in Game 2 of their ALDS series. Astros' ace Gerrit Cole was dominant on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits over six innings of work. He struck out 10 Angels batters and walked none.
Astros Offense Provides Support
The Astros' offense provided Cole with plenty of support, as they scored five runs on 10 hits. Jose Altuve led the way with three hits, including a solo home run in the fourth inning. Yordan Alvarez also homered for the Astros, a two-run shot in the second inning.
Angels Offense Struggles
The Angels' offense struggled to get anything going against Cole and the Astros' bullpen. Mike Trout was held hitless in four at-bats, and Shohei Ohtani went 1-for-4 with a strikeout. The only runs the Angels scored came on a solo home run by Jared Walsh in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Luis Rengifo in the seventh.
Astros Take 2-0 Series Lead
With the win, the Astros take a 2-0 lead in the ALDS series. Game 3 will be played in Houston on Monday night, with the Astros looking to close out the series and advance to the ALCS. The Angels will need to win Game 3 to keep their season alive.
